The Longevity Question

Five communities. One pattern.

Researchers have long studied communities with extraordinary longevity — from the verified Blue Zones of Okinawa and Sardinia to mountain communities where residents maintain vigorous health well into their 90s and beyond. One common thread: their water sources are naturally alkaline, hydrogen-rich, and mineral-dense.

You've tasted it.

Cold. Clean. But something else entirely. A sharpness you could not name. A weight to it. A feeling that this water was alive in a way your kitchen tap has never been.

You drank more than you needed to. Not because you were thirsty. Because your body recognised something your mind had not yet named.

That feeling has a name.
Science calls it negative ORP.
Three Differences You Can Measure

What mountain water has. What yours does not.

Every mountain spring on Earth shares three molecular properties that city water and RO water lack entirely. These are not marketing claims — they are measurable, peer-reviewed, and published.

0
Negative ORP (Antioxidant Potential)

Every water source carries an electrical charge, measured in millivolts. Mountain spring water: -200 to -400 mV. Your RO water at home: +200 to +400 mV. Negative means the water carries extra electrons — nature's antioxidants. One gives. The other takes.

Shirahata et al., 1997. Electrolyzed reduced water scavenges active oxygen species and protects DNA from oxidative damage. Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, Vol.234, pp.269-274.

0
Dissolved Molecular Hydrogen

Molecular hydrogen is the smallest molecule in existence. It crosses cell membranes that nothing else can. The therapeutic benefit threshold: 500 ppb. SOMAWA systems generate up to 2,000 ppb. Your RO water: zero.

Ohsawa et al., 2007. H2 selectively reduces cytotoxic oxygen radicals while preserving beneficial ROS. Nature Medicine, Vol.13, pp.688-694. Molecular Hydrogen Institute: 2,000+ peer-reviewed studies.

0
Alkaline Mineral Structure

Mountain water passes through layers of ancient rock, picking up calcium, magnesium, and potassium in their ionic form — the form your body actually absorbs. RO purification strips it all out. What remains is clean. But empty.

Koufman & Johnston, 2012. pH 8.8 water permanently inactivates pepsin. Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, Vol.121(7), pp.431-434.

Three measurable differences. Not philosophy. Physics. As of 2024, over 3,000 peer-reviewed studies have examined molecular hydrogen's biological effects. The FDA classifies molecular hydrogen as GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe).

The Water You Are Actually Drinking

India's water crisis in four numbers.

Your RO purifier removes contaminants. But India's water challenges run deeper than most purifiers can reach.

0
districts — nearly half of India — affected by groundwater contamination.
CGWB Annual Report, 2024. 9.04% fluoride, 3.55% arsenic, 42% uranium in stressed zones.

Your RO purifier was designed for one problem: remove contaminants. It does that well. But it also removes every mineral, strips all hydrogen, and leaves water with a positive ORP — the opposite of what mountain communities drink naturally.

Your RO purifier removes contaminants. But what else does it remove?

The research behind the water.

These are not SOMAWA's claims. These are findings published in international scientific journals. You can verify every one.

Nature Medicine 2007
Hydrogen selectively reduces cytotoxic oxygen radicals

Landmark study at Japan Medical University demonstrated that molecular hydrogen (H2) selectively neutralises the most damaging oxygen radical — the hydroxyl radical — while preserving beneficial reactive oxygen species essential for cell signalling. This selectivity is what makes hydrogen unique among antioxidants.

Ohsawa et al. — Nature Medicine, Vol.13, pp.688-694
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology 2012
pH 8.8 water permanently inactivates pepsin

Research found that water at pH 8.8 permanently denatures (inactivates) pepsin — the enzyme responsible for tissue damage in acid reflux conditions. Unlike conventional antacids, alkaline water neutralises pepsin enzymatically.

Hydrogen water reduces blood lactate in athletes

Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study: 10 male soccer players consuming hydrogen-rich water showed significantly lower blood lactate, lower perceived exertion, and improved peak torque in muscle endurance testing.

The Technology

What if your kitchen tap could produce mountain water?

Not alkaline water. That word has been diluted by brands making claims they cannot back. Water that carries dissolved hydrogen, negative ORP, and minerals in their ionic, absorbable form — the three properties every mountain spring shares.

📷

Step 1
Electrolysis

Sintered platinum-titanium electrodes — fused at 1,200°C in a vacuum furnace — split water molecules, infusing dissolved molecular hydrogen and restructuring mineral bonds.

Step 2
Negative ORP

The electrolysis process generates a negative electrical charge (up to -1,000 mV) — restoring the antioxidant potential found in mountain springs.

Step 3
Ionic Minerals

Essential minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) are restructured into their ionic form — the form your body absorbs most efficiently.

Questions worth asking.

An RO purifier removes contaminants from your water — heavy metals, bacteria, dissolved solids. It does this well. But in the process, it also strips out every beneficial mineral, all dissolved hydrogen, and leaves your water with a positive ORP (oxidising). A water ionizer uses electrolysis to restructure purified water — restoring minerals in ionic form, infusing dissolved molecular hydrogen, and generating a negative ORP (antioxidant). They solve different problems. Many SOMAWA systems (like the Udaka) include built-in RO, so you get both purification and ionization.
Yes. Over 3,000 peer-reviewed studies have been published on molecular hydrogen. The landmark study was published in Nature Medicine in 2007 (Ohsawa et al., Vol.13, pp.688-694), demonstrating that H2 selectively neutralises the most damaging oxygen radical. The FDA classifies molecular hydrogen as GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe). The Molecular Hydrogen Institute maintains the full database of published research at molecularhydrogeninstitute.org. We encourage you to verify these studies independently.
No. A SOMAWA water specialist will call you within 24 hours. The call takes about 2 minutes. They will ask about your water source, your city, and your family's needs. If appropriate, they will offer a free in-home water quality test — where we measure your actual TDS, pH, and ORP. Based on the results, we recommend the right system for your home. There is no obligation at any stage. We believe in informed decisions, not pressure.
It depends on your water. If your municipal water has TDS under 200 (common in Mumbai, parts of Bangalore): the Amara installs directly on your tap — 5 plates, 5 pH levels. If your TDS exceeds 200 and you already have an RO: the Amara NXT connects after your existing RO unit — 5 plates, 5 pH levels. If your TDS is 200-2,000 (Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad): the Udaka has a built-in RO + ionizer in one machine — 5 plates, 5 pH levels. If you want the finest SOMAWA experience: the Modish is our ultra-premium system — 9 sintered platinum-titanium plates, 7 pH levels, up to 2,000 PPB hydrogen and -1,000 mV ORP. SOMAWA also engineers customized commercial systems with up to 64 plates for hospitals, hotels, and large-scale installations. The best way to find out: book a free water quality test, and we will measure your actual TDS at your kitchen tap.
